Functional medicine
Functional medicine is a medical practice that focuses on the optimal functioning of the body and its organ systems. Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of the patient’s condition, thus providing a complete, longer-lasting care solution for the patient. We prescribe laboratory tests in order to obtain an understanding of the patient’s biochemical and genetic condition. This allows us to get a full picture of the patient’s condition from several perspectives.
Some of the benefits of using Functional medicine are:
- Body focus rather than specific symptom/system focus. Western medicine generally focuses on the function of a single system or symptom, isolates the diagnosis to that affected area, and treats that only. Functional medicine takes the approach that the body is a whole, recognizing that the patient’s condition is potentially the combination of many things that are affecting each other.
- Herbal medicines rather than pharmaceutical drug-based treatments.
- Great addition to acupuncture treatment.
